Andrey Rublev vs Taylor Fritz: Preview
Rublev has been on a great run post the Australian Open 2021, where he was a beaten Quarter Finalist. In the Rotterdam Open he overcame five opponents to lift the Trophy. His most impressive victory was in the Semi Finals against Stefanos Tsitsipas, a match he won 6-3 7-6.
In the Qatar Open he reached the Semi Finals of the competition. At the Dubai Open so far, he is already in the third round, having beaten his second round opponent Emil Ruusuvuori in straight sets 6-4 6-4. Due to high seeding, no.2, he had a bye in the first round of this competition. His third round opponent is American Taylor Fritz. Fritz has earned quite a reputation on the tour this season.
He had reached the Semi Finals of the Qatar Open where he was beaten by Nikoloz Basilashvili of Georgia. In the Dubai Open he avenged that loss by beating the Basilashvili in the second round, 4-6 6-3 7-6. The fifteenth seeded Fritz also had a bye in the first round of the competition.
Andrey Rublev vs Taylor Fritz: Head-to-Head
These two players have met twice on the tour before, and both times in the 2018 season. The first meeting was at the Indian Wells masters which Fritz won 6-4 7-6 and the next and most recent meeting was at the Next Gen ATP Finals which Rublev won in five sets. So the head to head is at 1-1.
Andrey Rublev vs Taylor Fritz: Prediction
Rublev in an interview had talked about tennis being like a game of chess. On the fast courts of Dubai his hammer-like forehand becomes double the weapon. Both Fritz and Rublev have similar baseline games, just that Rublev does everything a little bit better. Rublev should be wary of the Fritz serve though.
Match Prediction: Andrey Rublev will beat Taylor Fritz in three sets.
