Aslan Karatsev is best remembered for his exploits at the Australian Open 2021. Ranked 114 before the start of the tournament, Karatsev played the qualifiers first and then once in the main draw, made his way right up to the Semi Finals. In the Semi Finals he was beaten by the champion Novak Djokovic 6-3 6-4 6-2. At the end of the tournament he had jumped 72 places to a new World no.42.

After the Australian Open, Karatsev participated in a national team ATP Cup before coming to the Qatar Open. At the Qatar open he lost in the singles to Dominic Thiem in the second round, but won the doubles title with fellow Russian Andrey Rublev. At the Dubai Open his first round opponent is Egor Gerasimov. Gerasimov started the year with a second round exit at the Australian Open 2021.

Post that though he did really well at the Montpellier Open, where he reached the Semi Finals stage. David Goffin beat him in the semifinals, 4-6 6-2 4-6. Since then he has had only first or second round finishes, and comes into the Dubai Open low on confidence.
