South African Lloyd Harris has had a decent season so far. He reached the third round of the Australian Open and reached the Round of 16 at Qatar.

In Dubai, he has had to go the long way. He had to defeat Gabashvili and Rola in the qualifiers to reach the main draw before getting the better of Christopher O’Connell in the first round to get up a clash with Thiem.
