Kevin Anderson vs Frances Tiafoe: Preview

Tiafoe comes into this clash with decent amount of matches under his belt for the year. After an early exit on the hard courts of Melbourne, the American travelled to play Buenos Aires and Santiago on the clay. Thereafter, he made the fourth round of the Miami Masters last month, before playing the tournament in Barcelona last week, where he was knocked out in the second round by Diego Schwartzman.

On the other hand, the big serving South African hasn’t played much tennis for the year. With only five matches under his belt, coupled with none on the clay is not a healthy sign for Anderson. He saw early elimination at the Australian Open and Miami Masters. Given his recent slump, it is tough to see him do any damage on the clay this week.

The two have met four times on the tour with the South African leading by 3-1. That said, the American won their last contest which was played at the Australian Open in 2019. It is also important to note that this will be their first ever meeting on clay.

Given how less Anderson has played for the year, it will be pretty tough for the lanky South African to find his footing. Moreover, with no matches on clay might only compound issues. Meanwhile, the American is coming on the back of six matches on the dirt, with the recent ones in Barcelona, last week. There is little to suggest that Tiafoe won’t come out trumps in this contest.

Match Prediction: Frances Tiafoe should win in straight sets
