Following his quarterfinal defeat to eventual champion Jannik Sinner at the Australian Open, Alex de Minaur played his first final of the season at the Rotterdam Open only to lose the match in three sets to Carlos Alcaraz. Before arriving in Turin, the 28-year-old lost to Bublik in the third round of the Paris Masters.

The last time Fritz won an ATP 500 or above event was at the 2022 Japan Open against Frances Tiafoe. Fritz has taken home just one Big Title, the 2022 Indian Wells, by defeating 22-time Grand Slam champion Rafael Nadal.
