Carlos Alcaraz is set to take on Taylor Fritz in the second round robin match at the ATP Finals in Turin. Currently, both players have already recorded opening wins at the tournament, both victories coming in straight sets. However, should Fritz or Alcaraz win the match, they are likely to secure qualification for the semi-finals and will go top of the Jimmy Connors Group.
Fritz is seeking to achieve the heights he claimed last year at the tournament, when he got to the finals for the first time in his career after beating Alexander Zverev. But he failed to be of any real challenge to Jannik Sinner, who crushed him in straight sets to win his maiden ATP Finals in Turin.

Carlos Alcaraz has been the best player on the men’s circuit this season. The 22-year-old has claimed eight titles already this year, more than any player on tour (both in men’s and women’s circuits). His last title came at the Tokyo Open, where he had to shake off an injury concern in the second round before beating Fritz in the final.
However, Alcaraz has not had his best start to the indoor hard court swing this season. He featured at the Rolex Paris Masters, where he crashed out in the second round after losing to Cameron Norrie in three sets. But at the year end tournament, the Spaniard earned his opening group stage win by defeating Alex de Minaur 7-6(5), 6-2.
Taylor Fritz, on the other hand, struggled in the first six months of the season, crashing out early in the Australian Open and Roland Garros. It was during the grass-court season that the American star hit form, winning the Stuttgart Open and Eastbourne International, before reaching the semi-finals of the Wimbledon.
He has not been convincing on the court since the US Open, reaching just one final in his last four tournaments. But at the ATP Finals, he kicked off with an excellent performance against Lorenzo Musetti, who took the place of Novak Djokovic. He beat the Italian star 6-3, 6-4 in the opening match on Monday (November 10).

Alcaraz is seriously under pressure at the ATP Finals as he has to win three matches to ensure that he finishes the year as World No.1. He currently leads his arch-rival Jannik Sinner with just 1,050 points in the ATP live rankings. He won against De Minaur in his opening match and will need to beat Taylor Fritz and Lorenzo Musetti.
It will be the fourth meeting in the space of four months between Alcaraz and Fritz on tour. They met at Wimbledon, the Laver Cup, and the Japan Open. It was at the Laver Cup that Fritz ended his losing streak against the Spaniard but fell to him two weeks later in Tokyo. Alcaraz currently leads the American ace 4-1 in their head-to-head record.
Fritz hopes to prove a point against Alcaraz in the ATP Finals. He has often given Alcaraz a tough time on the court each time they meet. In fact, in their last three meetings, he has won three sets against Alcaraz. Should he win the match, he will go top of the Jimmy Connors Group.
