The 56th edition of the ATP Finals kicked off on November 9 and saw Carlos Alcaraz beat Alex de Minaur and Alexander Zverev beat Ben Shelton. On November 10, defending champion Jannik Sinner will get his campaign in Turin underway. He will be up against Felix Auger-Aliassime.
Before the Sinner versus Auger-Aliassime Group Bjorn Borg clash, Group Jimmy Connor’s Lorenzo Musetti will lock horns with Taylor Fritz. The American ace was the runner-up in the 2024 ATP Finals.

Lorenzo Musetti started the season at the Hong Kong Open and, following several early-round exits, the Italian reached the final of the Monte Carlo Masters (his first in a Masters 1000 event), only to suffer a three-set defeat at the hands of Carlos Alcaraz. The 23-year-old then made multiple semifinals but also suffered early-round exits in the next few tournaments until the Chengdu Open.
He lost the final to Alejandro Tabilo. The next time he made a championship clash was in the first edition of the Hellenic Championship in Athens, where Novak Djokovic came from a set down to deny him the title.
Musetti, in fact, has not yet won a title since lifting his career’s second title at the 2022 Tennis Napoli Cup. Since then, he has lost six finals. Fritz has claimed two titles this season. Earlier this season, he struggled to make deep runs and only made a final when the grass swing started.
The 28-year-old lifted the Stuttgart Open by defeating Alexander Zverev and continued his winning ways by clinching his career’s fourth title at the Eastbourne International by beating compatriot Jenson Brooksby.
He reached his third final at the Japan Open, where Alcaraz denied him his second title in the tournament. The 2024 US Open runner-up has only one Big Title to his name- the 2022 Indian Wells, which he won by defeating Rafael Nadal.
Before arriving in Turin, Fritz failed to go past Alexander Bublik in the round of 16 of the Paris Masters. Fritz, in fact, has not won more than one match in the three tournaments (Shanghai Masters, Swiss Indoors, and the Paris Masters) he has played after his Japan Open final defeat to Alcaraz.

Musetti will be making his debut in the ATP Finals. His participation hung in the air because of Djokovic.
Musetti and Auger-Aliassime were fighting to grab the eighth spot, and had Djokovic played, Musetti wouldn’t have gotten the chance to feature as he lost the Athens Open. But because the 24-time Grand Slam champion- also ATP Finals’ most successful player with seven titles- once again withdrew, Musetti came in as his replacement.
Fritz will be making his third appearance in the season-ending championship. He played the semifinals in his maiden appearance in 2022, while last year, he lost the final to Sinner.
Musetti has faced Fritz five times and trails 3-2 in the head-to-head matchups. This will be the first time they will meet since the fourth round of the 2024 Paris Olympics, where Musetti clinched the bronze medal by defeating Auger-Aliassime.
