Andrey Rublev has been one of the most consistent and improved players on tour this season and it has reflected in his ranking too. At the resumption of the tour in August he was ranked at No.14 in the World but currently he is at No.7. In the clay court leg of the season so far, Rublev has been very good so far. In the first tournament, the Monte Carlo Open, he reached the Finals of the competition, beating players like Rafael Nadal on the way. At the Barcelona Open too, he made it to the Quarter-finals. At the Madrid Open so far, he had a bye in the first round. In the second round, he beat American Tommy Paul in three sets 6-7 6-3 6-4. His third round opponent is big John Isner.

Isner did not travel to Australian this year. So, he has played in just three tournaments so far. The first was the Delray beach Open, where he reached the Quarter-finals. Then came the Acapulco Open, where Stefanos Tsitsipas got the better of him in the round of sixteen. At the Miami Open, Isner showed some good form before losing to Roberto Bautista Agut in the round of sixteen, In the first round of this tournament Isner beat Miomir Kecmanović 6-4 7-6 and in the second he took his revenge from Bautista Agut by beating him in a hard fought three set battle, 6-4 6-7 7-6.

Andrey Rublev vs John Isner: Prediction

Rublev has the game to go very far in the tournament, potentially into the Semifinals at least, but for that he has to guard against complacency. There are times when he was very passive and just let things happen against Paul, and he has to stop doing that.

John Isner served 28 aces in his first round encounter, and he topped that and served 32 aces in his second round match. The serve remains Isner’s biggest weapon, but the serve alone might not be sufficient against a top-7 player.

Match Prediction: Andrey Rublev will beat John Isner in three sets.
