The highlight of Basilashvili’s season was beating Roger Federer in the second round of the Qatar Open and then going on to win the trophy. This happened in March this year and since then his only other notable feat has been reaching the Semi-finals of the Sardegna Open. In the tournament so far, Basilashvili has beaten Thiago Monteiro in the first round, and then got the better of Columbian qualifier Daniel Elahi Galán in the second.

His Quarter-final opponent is Norbert Gombos. Gombos came through the qualifiers to reach the quarter final of the tournament. In the Qualifier 1, he beat India’s Sumit Nagal. In the qualifier 2, he got the better of  Daniel Elahi Galán. In the main draw he defeated Federico Coria of Argentina in straight sets, 6-4 6-1.
