Nitto ATP Finals may be held behind closed doors after new government guidelines
ATP Nitto Finals, the season end event which features the 8 best ranked players in the world against each other might be held behind closed doors this year after fresh guidelines were issued by the British Prime Minister, Boris Johnson. The new lockdown in England, will commence from Thursday and will last until the 2nd of December. The tournament will be held from 15th-22nd November.
The ATP organizers are working to hold the Nitto Finals event behind closed doors after the new guidelines were issued. “We will continue to work with all relevant authorities, both at a national and local level, to ensure that all necessary measures are put in place to ensure the safety of all those involved in the tournament,” the ATP said in a statement.
Two places up for grabs in the Nitto ATP Finals
Out of the 8 places up for grabs, 6 have already been confirmed as Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, Dominic Thiem, Danill Medvedev, Alexander Zverev and Stefanos Tsitsipas have sealed their place in the tournament. The remaining two places are most likely to be grabbed by Diego Schwartzman and Andrey Rublev. Rublev is almost certain of a place in London after reaching the final of the ATP Erste Bank Open in Vienna.
Stefanos Tsitsipas is the defending champion after he defeated Dominic Thiem in a three set battle in the finals at the O2 last year. The field also features Rafael Nadal who is yet to win a Nitto ATP Finals title and will be hoping to turn things around this time. World number one, Novak Djokovic will lead the charge in London.
This is the 50th anniversary of the Nitto ATP Finals and is the last time it will be held in the O2 Arena in London as it set to move to Turin from next year.
