ATP Paris Bercy: Daniil Medvedev beats Diego Schwartzman, de-thrones Roger Federer in ATP charts
The quarterfinal at ATP Rolex Masters in Paris saw the aspiring Diego Schwartzman seeking a win to reach the semis. However, he unfortunately succumbled to a straight-set loss against Daniil Medvedev.
The Russian who has already qualified for the ATP Finals in London, won 6-3, 6-1. It was a battel that hardly lasted over an hour as Medvedev continues to chase his first Bercy title.
Disappointing loss for Schwartzman
The match was throughout dominated through the aggressive play of Medvedev. He pushed Schwartzman aside without losing a hold. Medvedev sealed the victory with over 20 winners, hitting a beautiful two-handed backhand that has garnered respect on the circuit. Medvedev lost only 5 points on serve in a 6-3, 6-1 win.
Schwartzman remains with 3455 ATP points and Carreño-Busta with 2535. However, as the battle between Rafael Nadal and Carreno Busta ended with the latter losing out in straight sets, 3-6, 1-6. Schwartzman has got his name in the final line-up.
Roger Federer drops to the No.5
Along with his win here, Medvedev also has the spot of number 4 at the ATP rankings. However, Federer has 6630 points to his name and will remain at the same until he returns to the tour in 2021. Medvedev is at 5980 points and will see the improved rankings on Monday.
