Diego Schwartzman vs Daniil Medvedev: Match Preview
The pressure is mounting for the 28-year-old, Diego Schwartzman as he knows he is just one match away after this from qualifying for the year-ending ATP Finals. The Argentine has reached two finals out of his last three tournaments. He also had an incredible run to the semi-finals of Roland-Garros.
The Russian has an excellent ATP 1000 record having already won Masters titles in Cincinnati and Shanghai last season but he is yet to reach the heights of his form and has not won a title this year. However, the 24-year-old has already surpassed his best placing at the Paris Masters by reaching the quarter-finals after a second-round exit to Jeremy Chardy last year.
Diego Schwartzman vs Daniil Medvedev: Head to Head
Schwartzman has never beaten Daniil Medvedev in three previous matches, including in the quarter-finals at Queen’s last year and back at the beginning of this year at the ATP Cup with only 1 of the 3 meetings between the two players gone to a deciding set.
History is not on Schwartzman’s side as Medvedev leads their head-to-head record 3-0.
Diego Schwartzman vs Daniil Medvedev: Match Prediction
There is plenty riding on this match for Diego Schwartzman if he is to qualify for the ATP Finals off his own racket. History is not on Schwartzman’s side but Medvedev, who leads their head-to-head record 3-0. Although, Medvedev has not faced the current version of Schwartzman, the Russian still has the edge over his opponent in playstyles as he will look to take time down yet again.
It is, therefore, hard to imagine Medvedev losing a match at such a crucial stage of the tournament – and that too against an opponent that he has beaten comfortably in the past.
Medvedev’s test against Alex de Minaur in the previous round should serve him well here too as a warning but there is a real determination to Schwartzman that suggests this match will go to a decider before a winner is found. The two will clast tonight.
Match Prediction: Daniil Medvedev to win in 3 sets.
