Pablo Carreno Busta bagged the ninth seed for Bercy due to his world ranking. However, the Spaniard hasn’t had a good indoor hardcourt season, exiting in the second rounds of both tournaments he has played on the surface this year. He also lacks a proper win on the surface this year, with both second-round entries coming via a bye (Antwerp) or a walkover (Vienna).

He did produce some decent tennis in the first set against Gael Monfils, but it was against an injured opponent. His second-round match in Vienna was against the injury-troubled Kevin Anderson, who had a great day and defeated the Spaniard in straight sets.

He made a dream run in this year’s French Open, where he made the fourth round after defeating the likes of Stanislas Wawrinka and Yoshihito Nishioka, two high-ranked opponents.
