Denis Shapovalov received a bye in the first round by virtue of being the fourth seed. The Canadian comes into the Qatar Open after suffering a third round exit from the Australian Open 2021. Shapovalov lost to his fellow Canadian, Felix Auger Aliassime in straight sets in Melbourne. The fourth seed will look forward to bounce back from his disappointment with a much better show in Doha.

Vasek Pospisil defeated Christopher O’Connell in straight sets in the first round of the Qatar Open. The unseeded Canadian dropped just seven games in the entire match, and was looking in good form.
