ATP Rotterdam Open 2021: Andy Murray and Alexander Zverev awarded wildcards

ABN AMRO World Tennis Tournament, an ATP 500 event will be held in Rotterdam from March 1-7, 2021. Andy Murray, three time Grandslam champion and Alexander Zverev were the prominent names to have received the wildcard for the tournament.
Andy Murray suffered a disappointing first round loss at the Montpellier Open this week and will look forward to get his season back on track with a better performance in Rotterdam. Alexander Zverev received a wildcard after he missed the deadline to confirm his participation by virtue of his ranking. The German last competed at the Australian Open 2021 where he suffered a quarterfinal loss to the eventual champion, Novak Djokovic in straight sets.
Botic Van De Zandschulp and Robin Haase, the two Dutch players have also been awarded wildcards for their home tournament.
Rafael Nadal withdraws, Daniil Medvedev, Tsitsipas headline strong field in Rotterdam
Rafael Nadal announced his decision to withdraw his name from the Rotterdam Open, citing his back issues which he developed prior to the Australian Open 2021. However, inspite of the Spaniard’s absence, the Rotterdam Open promises to live up to it’s expectations with the likes of defending champion, Gael Monfils, Australian Open runner-up, Daniil Medvedev all in the mix to lift the title.
Stefanos Tsitsipas, the Greek Nextgen star is another high profile name at the Rotterdam Open 2021. He comes into the tournament after his semifinal run at the Australian Open, where he defeated Rafael Nadal in a thrilling quarterfinal clash.
Andrey Rublev, Matteo Berrettini and 2015 champion, Stan Wawrinka are among the other stars competing in the tournament next week.
