ATP Sofia Open 2020: John Millman vs Vasek Pospisil Preview, Head-to-Head and Prediction

After winning his first-ever career title at the Astana Open Australia’s John Millman is now back in the Top 40 ATP ranking. Millman is a hardcourt specialist whose best performance came at the very same court back in 2018 when he reached the quarterfinals at the US Opens beating the likes of Roger Federer on the way.

Vasek Pospisil, on the other hand, is ranked 74th in the world. The Canadian was a big-time doubles player in the past. He won the Wimbledon Doubles title in 2014, but now is focusing on gaining a foot in the singles game. Though he missed the majority of the 2019 season, Pospisil looks to end 2020 with a bang.

Millman and Pospisil both have faced-off against each other once in the past. Both competed in the 2019 Davis Cup quarterfinals on an indoor hardcourt surface. Pospisil won that encounter beating the Australian in 2 straight sets, en route to his Canadian team reaching the finals.

Despite winning the Astana Open, Millman bowed out of the Paris Masters in the early stages. He has had a mixed bag in this tournament as well. Winning in straight sets against Adrian Andreev in the first round but only managing to scrap past Gilles Simon in a tough three-setter in the Round-of-16.

Pospisil reached the round-of-16 at the US Open but was out of the Paris Masters in the second round of qualifiers. AT ATP Sofia Open, in reversal to Millman’s form, Pospisil had it tough against Illya Marchenko in the first round but easing past fourth-seeded Jan-Lennard Struff in straight sets in the second round.

Though the Counterpunching specialist Millman is ready to swat any short ball that comes his way, the attacking player in Pospisil is expected to keep him on the back foot.

Match Prediction: Another three setter, but Pospisil is likely to sneak past Millman and reach the semi finals.
