Monfils failed to register even a single victory in three tournaments he played in Rome, Hamburg and the French Open, getting knocked out in the 1st round itself.

Pablo Carreno Busta had a decent clay court season where he reached the last 8 of the French Open before finally losing to Novak Djokovic. He returned to hard court action last week after his US Open semifinal run in August. He was defeated in the 2nd round of the European Open at Antwerp by Frenchman, Ugo Humbert.
