ATP Vienna Open: Andrey Rublev stops Lorenzo force to claim 5th ATP season title and book ATP Finals berth

At the finals of the ATP Erste Bank Open, Andrey Rublev, the fifth seed was up against the lucky loser Lorenzo Sonego. Andrey Rublev beat Lorenzo Sonego in straight sets 6-4, 6-4. Rublev has successfully enlisted himself the ATP Nitto Finals in London.
Despite making headlines after handing Novak Djokovic a straight-set defeat, Sonego failed to earn the title at the ATP Vienna 2020 tournament. Now, Rublev has a 19-1 win-loss since the Hamburg Open and third ATP 500 title.
Sonego’s dream run crashes
At the opening set, at 2-2, the lucky loser made back-to-back forehand errors to give Rublev the break, and the fifth seed never looked back. Rublev saved two break points while sealing the set. The second serve was much effective to give Rublev the game and set.
Sonego strove hard in the second set, steadily trying to push himself up and keeping ground shots effective. Yet a critical cross-court backhand error at 4-4 made Rublev stride towards the set. Eventually, Rublev won the second set and the championship too 6-4,6-4. Sonego’s dream run ended with a straight-set loss against the Russian.
Andrey Rublev is the first Russian to win 5 titles in one ATP Tour season. The last time a Russian achieved this was Nikolay Davydenko in 2009.
