The ATP Cup and Auckland Open have already been cancelled. Doha and Adelaide will also not be played because of its far-off proximity from the Australian Open.

The tournaments which take place in February and act as a β€œbuffer zone” between the ATP Master 1000 events are also likely to not take place, especially if the Australian Open moves to this month. These include; Rotterdam, Rio de Janeiro, Marseille, Montpellier, Buenos Aires, and New York Open.

Tournaments which are on track

Rome Open Arena

A lack of economic prospects and ability to make short-term decisions has left some tournaments dangling in the β€˜no-men’s area.’

Josh Ripple from the Miami Open organisation stated, β€œThere are several factors in making the decision that will be addressed over the next 2-4 weeks.”

In addition, Rome Open seems on track to take place from May 3 to May 16.

β€œToronto will host the world’s best ATP players, while Montreal will welcome the stars of the WTA Tour,” was the statement released by the organisation of Canada Open

Additionally, these tournaments have confirmed the same on the ATP Tour:

  • Rotterdam (ABN AMRO World Tennis Tournament, February 8-14)
  • Buenos Aires (Argentina Open, February 8-14)
  • Marseille (Open 13, February 15-21)

On the WTA Tour:

  • Charleston (Volvo Car Open, early April)
  • Stuttgart (Porsche Tennis Grand Prix, end of April)

Moreover, ATP tournaments including Delray Beach, Houston, Barcelona, Munich, Miami, Indian Wells, Monte-Carlo and Madrid have also commented on their possibility of following through the upcoming season. However, other tournaments have not yet announced their plans regarding the aforementioned.

The Main Event: Grand Slams

Wimbledon Centre Court

While everything may seem up in the air when referring to the ATP/WTA 250, 500 and 1000 events, the Grand Slams seem to be in full swing.

While a lot of factors are yet to be confirmed regarding the Australian Open 2021, the tournament will most likely decide to move ahead with its new edition.

On October 16, 2020, the All-England Club declared that there is no prospect of a consecutive cancellation Wimbledon in 2021.

Wimbledon representative stated, β€œThese scenarios fall into three broad categories: a full capacity Championships, a reduced capacity Championships, and a β€˜behind closed doors’ Championships, all of which are dependent on the status of government and public health guidelines.”

The U.S Open and French Open will have a better handle of the situation the second time-around. These two have already been conducted successfully when the conditions were more awful in 2020.

While there remains mixed news when it comes to the first-half of 2021, the season will notice a drift into familiarity in the latter half of the year.
