French midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni spoke highly in praise of his former Real Madrid teammate Toni Kroos, following his last international match. The 34-year-old German midfielder played the last match of his football career, in a 2-1 defeat to Spain.

Germany’s defeat marked a bittersweet farewell for 34-year-old Real Madrid legend Toni Kroos– who had previously announced his retirement– after the tournament. The match was the last one of his otherwise incredible career, with both club and country. On his last match day, Kroos received a heartfelt message from his potential Los Blancos successor, Frenchman Aurelien Tchouameni.

On a somewhat emotional day for the veteran midfielder, Tchouameni expressed his gratitude to Kroos by acknowledging his immense contribution to football. Moreover, he also hailed the ex-Bayern Munich star as one of the greatest midfielders the sport has ever seen. The Frenchman further conveyed his appreciation for his predecessor in a social media post simply stating, “Toni Kroos, Just Thank You Man.

The Frenchman, who joined the Los Blancos from AS Monaco in 2022, did get to play alongside the German for two straight seasons. While Kroos’ tournament has concluded, Tchouameni’s France progressed to the semi-finals by defeating Portugal.

Starting out his club career at Bayern Munich, the German midfielder rose through the ranks of the team, winning ten titles in his six-year long stint. He joined Real Madrid in the summer of 2014 for €25 million. In Madrid, Kroos won 21 trophies, including four La Liga and five UCL titles. Additionally, he has been selected three times each for the FIFPRO World 11 and UEFA Team of the Year.

Looking back at his international career after retiring, the 34-year-old played a crucial role in Germany’s successful 2014 FIFA World Cup campaign.
