The Indian Cricket Team registered a historic victory in the first of the five-match Test series in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy at the Optus Stadium in Perth by 295 runs. The next Test will be a Day/Night Test match with the Pink Ball in Adelaide, starting on December 6. Meanwhile, India’s Head Coach, Gautam Gambhir, is set to return back to India for personal reasons.
A source close to the Board of Cricket for Control in India (BCCI) has stated that a family member of the head Coach is ill, and hence, he has to return back to the country. It comes as a personal emergency ahead of the crucial Pink Ball Test where India registered their lowest total of 36/9, the last time they played in 2020-21.
Meanwhile, the Indian captain, Rohit Sharma, has already joined the team and is set to feature in the Adelaide Test. The Indian captain missed the first Test match due to the birth of his baby boy and was already practicing against the Pink Ball during the Perth Test.
Rohit Sharma has been in poor form in the longest format of the game
KL Rahul opened with Yashasvi Jaiswal in the Perth Test and looked solid from the outset. He also scored 77 runs in the second innings and played the new ball effectively well. With the arrival of Sharma, it remains to be seen if India does continue with the same opening partnership or Rahul has to make way for the Indian captain.
Sharma managed 91 runs in six innings at an average of 15.17 at a strike-rate of 68.42 in the home series against New Zealand, which India lost 3-0. He is not in the runs in red ball cricket, and opening against the new Pink Ball will be more difficult under lights.
The Indian captain was batting in the nets against the Pink Ball as soon as he reached Perth and David Warner was covering it for the broadcasters.
India will play a two-day Pink Ball game starting on November 30. They will look to get their things sorted, given that they performed poorly in the last Pink Ball game in Adelaide, and change their fortunes this time around.
