The Indian Cricket Team under Jasprit Bumrah put up a sensational performance to register a 295-runs victory in the first of the five-match Test series against Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024/25 at the Optus stadium in Perth. Virat Kohli was at the forefront of it as he smashed his 81st international century and his 30th Test 100 in the second innings.

Kohli had not scored a century since the ODI World Cup 2023 semi-final against New Zealand in Mumbai. He was coming to the Test on the back of a poor home series against New Zealand and also had just two Test centuries in the last five years.

However, after getting dismissed for cheap in the first innings, he scored an unbeaten 100 runs off 143 deliveries.

The second Test match will be a Day/Night Test match with the pink ball in Adelaide, a place where Kohli has scored a lot of runs. He is also close to a record of the great Brian Lara.

Lara has scored the most runs by a visiting batter (610 runs) at the Adelaide Oval, while Kohli currently has 509 runs. He will need 102 runs more in the second Test to surpass Lara for this record.

Rahul Dravid heaped praise on Virat Kohli after his century

Former India head coach and batter, Rahul Dravid, praised Kohli for his century in Perth. He felt that the former Indian captain batted really well on the difficult wickets in the South Africa tour, but was just not able to get the hundred. Dravid feels that Kohli will score more runs in the ongoing BGT 2024/25.

He has been batting really well, even in South Africa months ago when we were there, I thought he was batting really well on a couple of difficult wickets. It is just nice for him to be able to get that hundred at the start of the series. I think he could have a big series.

Rahul Dravid told Star Sports

Meanwhile, the Indian captain, Rohit Sharma, is back for the second Test after missing the first due to the birth of his baby boy. Shubman Gill is also expected to feature after missing out on the first Test due to a thumb fracture. It remains to be seen if the opening partnership of Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul, who performed so well in the first Test, continues in Adelaide.
