JJ Redick praises Austin Reaves' offensive ability

The Los Angeles Lakers have just had one of their best starts to a season in years. After the Lakers dismantled the Phoenix Suns in a convincing 123-116 victory, Laker’s head coach JJ Redick praised Austin Reaves for the win. Reaves had an incredible outing against the star-studded Suns by pouring in 26 points and 8 assists in the win.

JJ Redick lauded his team for their incredible performance where the team was down 20 points in the second quarter. Amidst great performances from Anthony Davis and LeBron James, the 26-year-old guard stood out to Redick. The new head coach credited Reaves for leading the team’s offense in the second half after overcoming a possible blowout loss.

His offensive game in the half-court we need that, and he was just fantastic in the second-half… I knew he was a great player before I took the job… I knew he was good, I didn’t realise he was this good, he’s a fantastic basketball player.

JJ Redick said to the reporters

Reaves has elevated his game ever since JJ Redick joined the organization. The Lakers shooting guard will have to shoulder a much larger role this season with LeBron James likely to sit out a huge chunk of games. All seems well as Davis and Rui Hachimura have racked up their play to cover up any slack on offense and defense.

The Lakers now have had their best start since the 2010 season when Phil Jackson was still the head coach. Unlikely a fluke, the team will be tested against the offensive powerhouse, Sacramento Kings on Saturday. With Davis starting the season strong, health might be the only barrier stopping LA from another deep playoff run.

Anthony Davis and Austin Reaves in perfect SYNC to start the season

Ever since Anthony Davis dropped a powerful 35 points performance on opening night, the ‘Brow’ is likely looking to send a message. The Lakers center had poured in a total of 71 points in just two games to start the season. With a huge chunk of those points coming from Austin Reaves’ assists, the duo could be primed for a dominant season.

Throughout the two Lakers victories, the team has been piggybacking on Davis and Reaves’s offensive prowess. The guard and center dynamics seem to have found the perfect dynamics under Coach Redick with the team’s offense looking unstoppable at times. Although the team is running mostly the same squad as last year’s, the team appeared to be unidentifiable under the mastermind Redick.

Reaves is averaging a productive 19 points and 6 assists per game while Davis is totaling a monstrous 35.5 points per game for the season. However, this level of offensive accuracy is likely to be unsustainable. The two will have to maintain this level of production to be able to compete in the tight-knit Western Conference.
