Caitlin Clark

Austin Rivers, a former NBA player turned analyst, has spoken out against WNBA players who are envious of rookie sensation Caitlin Clark. In a video posted on his X account, Rivers urged players to put aside their jealousy and recognize the positive impact Clark has had on women’s basketball.

Austin Rivers pointed out that the WNBA has long struggled with financial issues and lack of attention, but Clark’s emergence has brought much-needed attention and respect to the league. He praised Caitlin Clark for bringing a new level of excitement and attention to the WNBA, and encouraged players to appreciate and acknowledge her contributions.

For the longest time, the WNBA was synonymous with a lot of things—not making a lot of money, actually losing money…their athletes were not being compensated [and] treated properly, and as a whole, their sport, in terms of women playing basketball, did not garner the proper attention. And now this woman comes along and brings the world in and is now giving y'all that proper attention and respect...And instead of being appreciative and acknowledging that, you guys are coming at her with these hate-a** comments.
Austin Rivers said in a video message on X:
We gotta stop the cap and all the hate some of y’all Woman are putting on Caitlin. Lbh on why people have such high interest all of sudden in woman’s basketball. The Caitlin Clark effect!!! It’s not only because of her, but it is mainly because of her! Cut the jealousy please….
Austin Rivers then wrote in the caption

Rivers compared Clark’s impact on the WNBA to that of Beyoncé and Justin Timberlake, saying she is the main attraction and has brought a new level of attention to the league. However, he also stressed that Clark is not yet considered an all-time great, but rather a talented player who has made a significant impact.

Overall, Rivers’ message was one of unity and support, encouraging WNBA players to come together and celebrate the growth and success of women’s basketball, rather than tearing each other down with jealousy and criticism. He urged players to recognize and appreciate Clark’s contributions to the league, and to work together to continue growing the sport.

WNBA upgrades Chennedy Carter’s foul on Caitlin Clark to Flagrant-1 violation

The WNBA has upgraded a foul committed by Chicago Sky guard Chennedy Carter against Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark to a flagrant-1 violation. The foul occurred during the third quarter of Saturday’s game, which the Fever won 71-70. Carter gave Clark a shoulder shot that knocked her to the floor before an inbound pass.

Initially, the officials called the foul an away-from-the-ball foul and did not review the play, deeming it a common foul. However, after reviewing the play, the WNBA upgraded the foul to a flagrant-1 violation.

Clark commented on the play after the game, saying she wasn’t expecting the foul but acknowledged that it’s a physical game. She focused on making the free throw and executing on offense, which she felt her team did successfully.
