Former Australian cricketer Michael Slater was taken into police custody on 12th April on charges of assault and stalking. This is the 5th time he has been arrested by the authorities since 2021 and is currently facing 19 charges for alleged offenses in the past five months.
Most charges are for offenses like assault, unlawful stalking, breaking in, domestic assault and harassment. Michael Slater was also charged for breaching his bail terms and going against his domestic assault order. He will face courts on 16th April.

The 54-year-old has been facing legal issues for the past three years. In 2021 he was arrested for domestic violence, stalking and harassing his ex-wife. All charges were dropped in 2022, but were reopened just hours after it was dismissed. Slater was once again arrested in May 2022 for stalking and intimidation, but was released on bail two months later.
Slater was again arrested four months after being released for breaching his bail conditions. In November 2022 he was convicted on all charges and was sentenced to 2-year imprisonment in the community. A month later, he was once again arrested after assaulting a police officer, but was only fined AUD 600 and the conviction was not added in his record.
Michael Slater and his career
Hailing from New South Wales, Slater made his senior team debut for New South Wales in 1991. After impressive performances in his first two seasons, he was brought into the Australian side as an opener. In his 10 Tests for Australia, he scored 753 runs with an average of 50.2.

He consistently performed for Australia but was dropped in 1996. The Australian Cricket Board (now known as Cricket Australia) claimed the opener used drugs after he split from his wife, but returned to the team in 1998.
In his first two years after his return, he proved why he deserved to stay in the squad, scoring 1770 runs in 24 Tests. He saw a huge dip in form and was finally dropped for Justin Langer. It was revealed that he was suffering from manic depressive bipolar disorder, which caused his dip in form. He played his last match for NSW in 2003 and then retired from the sport.
