Ashleigh Barty vs Shelby Rogers: Preview

Ashleigh Barty

All of Australia’s hope of a home champion relies on Ash Barty and the Aussie hasn’t disappointed yet. The world no.1 had not played competitive tennis for almost a whole year before returning last week.

The home favorite looks unfazed in the tournament so far. She is yet to drop a set and is hitting winners left, right and center. She defeated Danka Kovinić and Daria Gavrilova in the first two rounds before getting the better of Ekaterina Alexandrova 6-2,6-4 in the third round.

Her opponent, Shelby Rogers of USA looks in magnificent too. The 28-year-old has backed up her quarter-final run at last year’s US Open by reaching the fourth round at Melbourne Park. She has also not dropped a set yet.

Rogers got the better of Francesca Jones and Olga Danilović in the initial two rounds before defeating 21st seed Anett Kontaveit 6-4,6-3 in the third round.

Shelby Rogers

This will be the third meeting between the duo. The Aussie leads the H2H 2-0. Recently, they met last week at the Yarra Valley Classic, where the world No. 1 was taken to the tie-breaker before winning it 7-5, 2-6, 10-4.

Ashleigh Barty vs Shelby Rogers: Prediction

Ashleigh Barty

The no.1 seed Ash Barty is one of the big favorite to win the tournament and is looking as dominant as ever. Shelby Rogers has looked just as impressive so far in the tournament. She has been playing some of her best hardcourt tennis since past six months.

But Rogers will have to bring out her best game to get anywhere close to the Australian. However, Barty may just prove too much for the American. Expect Barty to cruise easily into the quarter-finals.

Prediction: Barty to win in straight sets
