Australian Open 2021: Day 6– Nadal, Tsitsipas, Medvedev, Rublev all move into the 4th round, local boy Alex de Minaur’s journey ends

Day 6 of the Australian open was the first day without spectators and the matches had a different feel to it. The day saw Rafael Nadal, Stefanos Tsitsipas, Andrey Rublev, all record straight set victories. Daniil Medvedev won a five setter. While local hope Alex de Minaur bid goodbye from this year’s Australian Open. 

Rafael Nadal powers past Cameron Norrie

2nd seed Nadal won the match in straight sets, but Norrie competed really well in the match. In a match of two southpaws, Nadal turned on best mode to finish the job 7-5 6-2 7-5. This was Nadal’s best performance in the tournament so far. He now faces Fabio Fognini in his 4th round match. 

Stefanos Tsitsipas blows away Mikael Ymer

Tsitsipas had too much class and ability for Mikael Ymer of Sweden. Ymer tried hard but couldn’t do much against the 5th seed Tsitsipas. In the end Tsitsipas won in straight sets 6-4 6-1 6-1. Next up for him is Matteo Berrettini of Italy. 

Daniil Medvedev taken to five sets by Filip Krajinović 

Medvedev had a tough fight on his hands when he came up against Krajinović in his third round match. Krajinović fought hard in the first 4 sets, but Medvedev just ran away with the final set and won it 6-0, The final score in favor of Medvedev 6-3 6-3 4-6 3-6 6-0. He will play Mackenzie McDonald in the next round. 

Andrey Rublev surges past veteran Feliciano López

Rublev was professionalism personified in his straight sets victory over López. He served better, hit better returns back and made his opponent run  a lot more. Rublev won 7-5 6-2 6-3. He will face 24th seed Casper Ruud in the next round. 

Alex de Minaur is ousted from the tournament

Alex was completely outplayed by 16th seed Fabio Fognini of Italy. Fognini won in straight sets 6-4 6-3 6-4.

  • Matteo Berrettini beat Karen Khachanov 7-6(7-1), 7-6(7-5), 7-6(7-5)
  • Casper Ruud beat Radu Albot 6-1 5-7 6-4 6-4
  • Mackenzie McDonald beat Lloyd Harris 7-6(9-7), 6-1, 6-4
