Serb Dusan Lajovic hadn’t won a first-round match since the French Open 2020. But now he has battled hard to reach the third round of the Australian Open 2021. The 26th seed was made to battle all the way in the first round by the veteran Ukrainian qualifier, Sergiy Stakhovsky, the world 201, and it took five sets before he was finally able to shake him off.

In the second round, he faced Alexander Bublik of Kazakhstan. He fought hard to defeat the Kazakh in 4 sets; 6-4,7-6(4),4-6,6-3.

His opponent, Spaniard Pedro Martinez is currently ranked 87th in the world. Since his preferred surface is clay, the Spaniard will be pretty impressed by his performance down under.

He won both his first and second round matches in 4 sets; defeating Yoshihito Nishioka and Emil Ruusuvuori respectively.

This will be the third meeting between the two players. Both of their meetings were on clay courts in Barcelona in 2018 and again last year in Buenos Aires. Lajovic won both those matches. Lajovic leads the H2H 2-0.

Dusan Lajovic

This will be an interesting encounter as both the players prefer claycourts over hardcourts. Both the players spent a lot of time on court in the initial two rounds as none of their victories have been in straight sets. Lajovic will start as favorite but he will know he can be in for a long match.

Prediction: Lajovic to win in four sets.
