German sixth seed Alexander Zverev used his powerful serve to good effect to overcome 23rd seed Dusan Lajovic of Serbia 6-4 7-6(5) 6-3 on Sunday and reach the Australian Open quarter-finals.

Sascha needed five sets to beat Lajovic in each of their two previous meetings at the French Open, but the 23-year-old was as ruthless as ever on Margaret Court Arena sealing the victory with his 15th ace.

“It wasn’t easy but you know I’m happy to be through”: Alexander Zverev

Alexander Zverev is one of the strong contenders for the tournament after finishing runner-up at US Open 2020.

“Today was a pretty good match, much colder than the other days,” Zverev said in the post match interview. “I’m very happy with a win and it could have gone either way early on. It wasn’t easy.”

They conditions at the MCA were a bit different from previous days. Zverev spoke about how he had to adapt to the newer conditions.

“The conditions were so different in the other matches I played day session only so far in tournament I played once night against Cressy but it was much much warmer so the ball was flying a lot more my circles faster and I think for Dusan the slower the court is against me the better probably it is so it wasn’t easy but you know I’m happy to be through and that’s that’s all that matters”, Zverev continued.

Zverev was then asked about how his family in the play box affected him. He jokingly said that it doesn’t matter.

“He(his brother) doesn’t bring much to be honest… but it’s great to have your family here you know because especially on the road when when you play a lot of tournaments in row you get a little bit of homesick and I think you know having my dad here and having my brother here is obviously a great support and we practice every day he’s trying to come back as well I hope he’s going to be main draw next year as well here”, he concluded.
