Australian Open 2021: Rafael Nadal makes a comeback defeating Serbia’s Laslo Djere

The second day of the Australian Open 2021, marked the return of Rafael Nadal to the court. After he missed the pre-events citing his backache as an issue. He was paired against Laslo Djere of Serbia. The match was fairly pitched as Nadal did what was expected from him. Also, Dere came in bringing his best game possible.

The game ended with a score 6-3, 6-4, 6-1 with Rafa taking the win.

The Spaniard started with the upper hand winning three games in succession. Djere fought back winning three games but was overpowered by the sheer force packed in Rafa’s returns. The set was won by Nadal 6-3.

The second set started with the first game going to Nadal and then followed by another. Djere fought back to win three games. Nadal got the lead on him with the match at 4-3 and ended the game with a brilliant serve to make it 5-3. The Serbian however increased the force behind his returns and won the game making it 5-4.But Rafael struck back with a brilliant serve on the second duece followed by an overpowered volley return by Dere giving the game and set to Rafael Nadal. The set ended with 6-4.

The third set began with Djere’s serve and for a lack of better words, he gave the game to Rafa. He did fight back but it was all for none. The match reached it’s crescendo at 4-1 where Nadal displayed his phenomenal volley skills to make it 5-1. This set was also won by the Nadal. With Nadal winning the match with a score of 6-3, 6-4, 6-1.

In the post-match interview, Nadal praised Djere and expressed his gratitude for being able to survive through the first round.
