Australian Open 2021: Top-seeds for the Men’s and Women’s singles category announced!

After much turbulence, the Australian Open is moving straight ahead with its new edition which is scheduled to begin from 8 February. Tournament director, Craig Tiley, has announced that inspite of the obtscales, the organisers are committed to giving the viewers and the players the best possible experience.
A press release by the governing body of the sport down under, i.e, Tennis Australia, recently revealed that the prize pool for the championship remains the large sum of $71.5 million. Further, with every other aspect taken care of, the tournament has officially revealed the players’ entry lists for its new edition.
This list showcases the ranks at which the male and female players are being given entry at the event.
The Men’s Entry List
Following are the Top-10 seeds for the males-singles category:
- Novak Djokovic
- Rafael Nadal
- Dominic Thiem
- Daniil Medvedev
- Roger Federer
- Stefanos Tsitsipas
- Alexander Zverev
- Andrey Rublev
- Diego Schwartzman
- Matteo Berrettini
The first seed, Djokovic, is the defending champion of the lot. He will look to lift his 18th Grand Slam title while Rafa will hope to claim his record 21st. Further, one of the much-awaited comebacks will take place. Federer will make his return after staying on the sidelines in 2020 on account of undergoing a surgery. The Swiss will also open a bid for his 21st Slam title as well.
Moreover, last year’s runner-up and the third seed, Thiem, will aim to take one step further and lift a second Grand Slam title. After a hot-streak towards the end of 2020, Medvedev is the fourth seed and will look to build on the same.
The Women’s Entry List
Following are the Top-10 seeds for the females singles category:
- Ashleigh Barty
- Simona Halep
- Naomi Osaka
- Sofia Kenin
- Elina Svitolina
- Karolina Pliskova
- Bianca Andreescu
- Petra Kvitova
- Kiki Bertens
- Aryna Sabalenka
Herein, Barty is the top-seed and will be back in action at her homeland after a year long hiatus. In addition, Romania’s Halep is the second seed who will aim for her third Grand Slam title. Osaka will look to back up her U.S Open win, and is the third-seed. The defending champion, Kenin, will enter the event as a clear favourite on the fourth spot. Fifth seed, Svitolina, will look to bank on her incredible form from 2020.
Furthermore, Serena Williams is the 11th seed, and will contend for a record-equalling 24th Grand Slam title.
