Coco Gauff and Leylah Fernandez will face each other for the second time on court, in the third round of the Australian Open. They faced each other earlier this season at the United Cup 2025, which Coco Gauff later went on to win by defeating World 2 Iga Swiatek in the finals and clinching the title for team USA.

At the United Cup, Gauff defeated the Canadian Fernandez in straight sets with a scoreline of 6-3, 6-2. Their next meeting is scheduled to take place on January 17, 2025.

World No. 32, Leylah Fernandez, began her Australian Open 2025 campaign with a hard-fought victory over Ukrainian Yuliia Starodubtseva. Fernandez won with a score of 7-5, 6-4.  

In the second round, Fernandez faced a more difficult test against Spain’s Cristina Bucsa. After dropping the first set, Fernandez fought back to win the next two sets 6-4, 6-4.

Fernandez is a Grand Slam finalist.
