The Australian Open 2025 is about to reach its business end, and there is no better match to turn up the excitement than Iga Swiatek facing Emma Raducanu. Both players have previously won hard-court Grand Slams, with Raducanu triumphing at the US Open in 2021 and Swiatek claiming the title at Flushing Meadows the following year.
However, the circumstances are completely different now. Swiatek exited in the third round of the Australian Open last year and is determined to avoid a potential upset against Raducanu, who seems to be rediscovering the form that led her to victory at the US Open four years ago.
Both players have also had their share of physical challenges. Swiatek, who was banned from the WTA due to a failed doping test late last year, has frequently clashed with the authorities over scheduling. Raducanu, meanwhile, withdrew from the Auckland Open due to an injury ahead of the Australian Open. However, both players are now fully fit and ready to entertain the crowd on Saturday, January 18th.

Emma Raducanu vs. Iga Swiatek: Match Preview
World No. 2 Iga Swiatek entered the Australian Open after leading Poland to the United Cup final. In the final, she lost to Coco Gauff of the United States.
At the Australian Open so far, she has displayed flashes of her top form. Despite some inconsistencies, she has yet to drop a set in the tournament. Swiatek began her campaign with a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Katerina Siniakova and followed it up with a dominant 6-0, 6-2 win against Rebecca Sramkova.
On the other hand, Emma Raducanu had not played a singles match on the WTA tour since the Korea Open in September. She was scheduled to face Robin Montgomery in the opening round of the ASB Classic but withdrew at the last minute.
The decision to withdraw seems to have paid off, as Raducanu has shown improvement in both of her Australian Open matches. She started her campaign with a hard-fought 7-6, 7-6 win against 26th seed Ekaterina Alexandrova and followed it up with a 6-3, 7-5 victory over Amanda Anisimova.
Emma Raducanu vs. Iga Swiatek: Match Predictions
Iga Swiatek and Emma Raducanu have faced each other three times in their careers, with the Pole emerging victorious on all three occasions. Their most recent encounter was in Stuttgart last year, where Swiatek won in straight sets.
In addition to being 3-0 in matches, Swiatek is also 6-0 in sets against Raducanu. This means Raducanu faces a tough challenge against the former World No. 1.
The former British No. 1, however, has stated that she is feeling fit and will adopt a “nothing to lose” mentality against Swiatek. If Raducanu can build momentum and play freely, she may have a chance to upset the Pole. That said, we predict Swiatek to win in two closely contested sets, extending her record to four wins out of four.
Match Prediction: Iga Swiatek to win in three sets.
