On the other hand, Alex de Minaur has maintained his place in the top 10 of the ATP rankings. The Aussie has significantly improved in his game, but he’s yet to prove that at a Grand Slam tournament. He kicked off his 2026 campaign at the United Cup, where he helped Australia reach the quarter-finals before losing to Poland.

At the Australian Open, he been dubbed by many players to win it including Nick Kyrgios. He defeated Mackenzie McDonald 6-2, 6-2, 6-3 in the first round. The sixth seed then came from behind to beat Hamad Medjedovic before beating Frances Tiafoe 6-3, 6-4, 7-5 in the third round. He faced 10th seed Alexander Bublik in the fourth round and crushed the Kazakhstan star 6-4, 6-1, 6-1.

Carlos Alcaraz has never gone beyond the semi-finals of the Australian Open in his career. Both players were ranked lower than him before their meeting, which was a bit surprising.

He holds a 5-0 head-to-head lead against Alex de Minaur, and he has just lost one set in their meetings. The Spaniard has always dominated his matches against De Minaur and has beaten him easily on many occasions. He will be seeking to continue with his run at the Australian Open against the sixth seed.

De Minaur has the backing of the home crowd. During his win against Alexander Bublik, the crowd made it difficult for Bublik to be at his best, as they showed their support for De Minaur. He will hope for the crowd’s support against Alcaraz, who is more experienced at dealing with raucous crowds.
