Iga Swiatek vs. Anna Kalinskaya: Match Preview

Iga Swiatek started her campaign for the 2026 season at the United Cup, helping Poland secure their first title after disappointments in the previous two finals. The World No.2 overcame Germany’s Eva Lys, easily beat the Netherlands’ Suzan Lamens, and later secured a double breadstick win over Australia’s Maya Joint. But the six-time Grand Slam champion lost her last two matches, against the USA’s Coco Gauff in the semifinals and Switzerland’s Belinda Bencic in the final.

Swiatek is chasing her career’s first Australian Open title and is a two-time semifinalist in the tournament, reaching the stage in 2022 and 2025. Last year, eventual winner Madison Keys eliminated her.

Swiatek, the winner of four Roland Garros titles, the 2022 US Open, and the 2025 Wimbledon, needs just the Australian Open to complete the Career Grand Slam. The win will make her the sixth woman in the Open Era to achieve this feat, following Serena Williams, Steffi Graf, Chris Evert, Martina Navratilova, and Maria Sharapova.

Swiatek has so far lifted 25 titles from 30 finals. Last year, apart from Wimbledon, she made the title clashes of Bad Homburg Open, Cincinnati Masters, and the Korea Open, losing the former to Jessica Pegula, and winning the latter two by beating Jasmine Paolini and Ekaterina Alexandrova, respectively.

Anna Kalinskaya commenced her campaign for the 2026 season at the Brisbane International, where 2024 US Open runner-up Pegula knocked her out in three sets in the round of 32. Next at the Adelaide International, eventual runner-up Victoria Mboko secured a three-set win over her in the fourth round.

The Russian ace is a one-time quarterfinalist at Melbourne Park, reaching the stage in 2024. She skipped the event last year. Also in Majors last year, Kalinskaya failed to make deep runs. She lost in the first round of the French Open, the second round of Wimbledon, and the third round of the US Open.

Except for that quarterfinal run in the first Major of the season, Kalinskaya has made just one Grand Slam fourth round – at the 2024 Wimbledon. Kalinskaya, the runner-up at the 2024 Dubai Open, has not yet added a singles title to her name.

So far in her career, the World No.33 has featured in three singles finals: the 2024 Dubai Open, 2024 Berlin Open, and the 2025 Citi Open, losing all to Paolini, Pegula, and Leylah Fernandez, respectively.

Last year, they met twice, with the 24-year-old winning both times. First, Swiatek knocked her out in the fourth round of the Cincinnati Open, then in the third round of the US Open.
