Jessica Pegula vs. Amanda Anisimova: Match Preview
Jessica Pegula has maintained her position in the top 8 of the WTA rankings, being the oldest player there. She ended the 2025 campaign with a semi-final exit at the WTA Finals in Riyadh, losing to eventual champion Elena Rybakina. The World No.6 kicked off the new season in Brisbane and reached the semi-finals before losing to Marta Kostyuk.
In Melbourne, she overcame Anastasia Zakharova 6-2, 6-1 in the first round. In the second round, she impressively defeated her doubles partner, McCartney Kessler, in straight sets. Both players had lost their doubles opening match. After that, Pegula beat Oksana Selekhmeteva 6-2, 6-3 in the third round. On Monday (January 26), she defeated her friend and defending champion Madison Keys 6-3, 6-4.

On the other hand, Amanda Anisimova found her rhythm during the grass-court season last year, when she reached the Queen’s Club Championships final. She then went on to reach the Wimbledon final and the US Open final. The American claimed her second WTA 1000 title at the China Open after defeating Linda Noskova.
The World No.4 kicked off her 2026 season at the Brisbane International, where she reached the round of 16 before losing to Marta Kostyuk. In Melbourne, she’s yet to drop a set, beating Swiss star Simona Waltert, Katerina Siniakova, American star Peyton Stearns in straight sets before overcoming Chinese unseeded Xinyu Wang 7-6(4), 6-4.
Jessica Pegula vs. Amanda Anisimova: Match Prediction
Pegula beating her close friend Madison Keys in the fourth round will surely give her a genuine boost ahead of the quarter-finals of the Australian Open. The 31-year-old is seeking her first Grand Slam on tour, despite being one of the most consistent performers on the court in recent years.

She holds a 3-0 lead against Amanda Anisimova in their head-to-head record going into their clash. In fact, in their three previous meetings, Anisimova has won just one set. But they have never met since August 2024 at the Canadian Open, and since then, Anisimova has greatly improved her game.
Last year, Anisimova defeated World No.1 Aryna Sabalenka and World No.2 Iga Swiatek on tour, while also winning two WTA 1000 titles. The 24-year-old has improved her game in the past six months and has grown in confidence on the court. But that will be put to the test against Pegula, who is eager to win a Grand Slam. The winner of the clash is likely to face Swiatek in the semi-finals.
Match Prediction: Jessica Pegula to win the match in three sets.
