On last week’s episode of SmackDown, B-Fab competed in her first televised match since February. Competing against two experienced veterans in Bayley and Candice LeRae, B-Fab held her own. Despite losing in the end, the WWE Universe lauded the 33-year-old star for her performance in the match. Well, it turns out that it wasn’t just the fans rooting for her.
According to Fightful Select, several staff members and talent were closely monitoring the bout backstage. The report adds that B-Fab has received praise for working hard and improving her in-ring skills and training at the Hart Family Dungeon along with Natalya. Furthermore, a WWE producer said that the former Hit Row member had been through a lot over the past couple of years. Despite her troubles, B-Fab has always shown a positive attitude backstage.
The aforementioned match was a first-round triple-threat battle in the tournament for the Women’s United States Championship. With the belt seemingly exclusive to SmackDown, several female stars, who are rarely featured on TV, are expected to step up. B-Fab did so against Bayley and LeRae, even earning praise from the former Women’s Champion later on.
B-Fab cut an emotional promo on social media, vowing to come back stronger. In addition to that, she has set her sights on winning the Women’s US Title. B-Fab, along with The Street Profits, have shown that they are determined to win gold in WWE. Also on last week’s SmackDown, the duo of Angelo Dawkins and Montez Ford failed to capture the tag titles owing to a DQ loss against Motor City Machine Guns.
How B-Fab’s performance showed the importance of a women’s midcard title in WWE
In just one night, B-Fab proved how vital a women’s midcard title is to the division. The lack of a secondary title led to a huge gap between the main event scene and the tag team division. As such, fans had been clamoring for WWE to introduce a midcard championship.
With the new Women’s US Championship on SmackDown, Raw’s division may soon receive their own midcard title. On this week’s show, WWE aired vignettes of Dakota Kai and Lyra Valkyria, who expressed their desire to win championships. Kai and Valkyria are two names who have not featured prominently on TV despite being fan favorites.
Similarly, other talent such as Michin, Chelsea Green, and Piper Niven, who are considered underutilized by many fans, will have a shot at becoming the inaugural Women’s US Champion. Needless to say, the introduction of secondary titles in the division was a long time coming and will enhance the quality of women’s wrestling on weekly shows.
