Despite showcasing the biggest stars on the Raw Netflix debut, the major talking point after the show ended up being 71-year-old Hulk Hogan. The Hall of Famer appeared during the show to promote his beer company’s partnership with WWE. However, the Intuit Dome had no interest in listening to Hogan and his out-of-date schtick. Throughout Hogan’s promo, a chorus of boos rang throughout the arena, which made for a hilarious moment for fans and an awkward one for WWE.
According to Fightful Select, Hogan was “surprised and disappointed” by the crowd reaction. Although several sources expected the possibility of this occurring, they weren’t thrilled with the segment being a major talking point following the historic night. Despite the chaotic two-minute promo, the partnership between WWE and Real American Beer will continue on.
The deal includes the Stamford-based promotion owning a minor stake in Hogan’s beer company. In addition to that, the beer brand will be featured on the corners of the ring canvas. As expected, this move received a lot of criticism from the WWE Universe. Furthermore, the decision to involve Hogan on the Netflix premiere wasn’t met well by fans as well. Especially after top stars such as Gunther and Bron Breakker had to settle for a spectator’s seat in the audience.
By the looks of it, WWE is unlikely to bring back Hulk Hogan on its programming anytime soon. Hopefully, the company has now learned its lesson regarding featuring the controversial legend. While some believe that the negative crowd reaction was linked with Hogan’s political affiliations, that was most likely not the case.
Possible reason behind audience rejecting Hulk Hogan on Raw Netflix premiere
As mentioned, there was extensive discussion regarding the chorus of boos that Hulk Hogan received on Raw. A few outlets suggested that Los Angeles being a part of the blue state played a major role in it. After all, Hogan has been openly vocal about his support for Donald Trump and the Republican Party.
Interestingly, The Undertaker, who also expressed his support for Trump, appeared on the show. Unlike Hogan, however, Undertaker received a positive reaction from the WWE Universe. Furthermore, The Hulkster was welcomed in a similar manner in his hometown of Tampa Bay, FL, at WrestleMania 37.
Hogan’s racist comments and his bizarre lies over the years have tarnished his reputation within the wrestling community. Taking that into account, the WWE Universe has moved on from Hulkamania and does not care to see Hogan taking up other wrestlers’ screen time.
