Damian Priest proved why he didn’t need Judgment Day to save him, as he retained his title after defeating Drew McIntyre. Although the match was pretty intense and hard-hitting, The Archer of Infamy suffered a scary moment. When he attempted a middle-rope springboard move, his leg got caught up in the ropes, nearly resulting in a disastrous injury.
After winning the match against Drew McIntyre, he addressed his injury situation in the post-show press conference. Although Damian Priest stated that he had not yet been examined by the doctor, he believed he felt quite fine. Furthermore, Dave Meltzer from the Wrestling Observer Newsletter reported that it was a miracle that the injury wasn’t that serious.
Even though his leg was hurting, his determination allowed him to finish the match on one foot. He should thank a certain someone hell-bent on seeking revenge from The Scottish Warrior. That someone was none other than CM Punk, who came disguised as a referee and refused to count to three when McIntyre was on the verge of winning. That distraction was enough for El Campeon to execute the South of Heaven and secure the victory.
It feels like trash right now. I didn’t even go to medical yet so I could do this and talk to you guys and answer your questions, so you’re all welcome. Docs will check it out, but I ain’t going anywhere. I was able to beat Drew McIntyre on one foot so I’m pretty sure I’m all good to go.Damian Priest in the press conference
Unfortunately, he has no time to rest, as many superstars are eager to vie for the title from him. One of those superstars is Gunther, who won the King of the Ring tournament by controversially defeating Randy Orton in Saudi Arabia. It will be intriguing to see who will step up next as his challenger for the title.
Damian Priest forced everyone in the press conference to “rise” for him after his emphatic win
The former United States champion’s comments in the press conference got fans hilariously comparing him to Roman Reigns. After he retained the title at Clash at the Castle, Priest compelled every media member to stand and appreciate his reign as champion. His comments closely resemble those of The Tribal Chief’s infamous press conference after WrestleMania 40.
Fans hilariously mocked him, saying that he should try to focus on building his character rather than copying Reigns. He has a lot to achieve to replicate the same level of success as The Tribal Chief. However, his title run should be respected, as he has been a dominant champion, beating the likes of Jey Uso and now McIntyre.
Some fans may argue with that assertion, as The Second City Saint played an important role in becoming the champion. Moreover, he was solely responsible for his victory in Scotland as well. Nonetheless, Priest has established himself as a main-event superstar through his hard work and is now reaping the benefits of it.
