Reports reveal backstage reaction of Kevin Owens' interview with Michael Cole (via WWE)
The latest episode of SmackDown featured a backstage interview between Kevin Owens and Michael Cole. The entire interview was shot in the parking lot of the Target Centre in Minneapolis, Minnesota, the venue for the show. The WWE Universe commended the segment not only for the intricate storytelling but also for the hilarious comedic timing.
It appears that WWE officials backstage had the same reaction as the fans. According to a report by Fightful, the segment was very well received backstage. Fans hope that this interview will help Owens rebuild his reputation of being one of the most compelling and entertaining characters on the roster. Furthermore, it may convince the company to give him a huge push, possibly as soon as Saturday Night’s Main Event when he challenges Cody Rhodes for the WWE Undisputed Championship.
The Canadian was done with having constant run-ins with the security. Thus, he wanted to conduct this interview outside the arena. Of course, he would later ignore this principle and barge into the arena to have an intense brawl with Rhodes after the main event.
The segment began with Michael Cole telling the former NXT Champion that he would try to do a completely unbiased interview. However, Owens claimed that the commentating legend had been a fan of Cody Rhodes since day one.
During the interview, Owens also teased that he would be going after Sami Zayn soon. The interviewer tried to tell the Prizefighter that he was the problem all along. However, this resulted in the most hilarious joke of the interview. The Canadian asked Cole to get out of his rental car. He then asked him to come back, but only to shut the window on his face and drive off.
Dutch Mantell believes Kevin Owens has blurred the lines between right and wrong in his feud with Cody Rhodes
It is safe to say that many wrestling legends were also highly impressed with this segment. Speaking on Smack Talk, Dutch Mantell claimed that Kevin Owens made several great points during the interview. His remarks were really forcing fans to think deeper about the situation. Furthermore, the lines between right and wrong in this rivalry were really not so clear.
Mantell believed that these backstage interviews with Owens were really getting over with the fans, especially because he does such a good job with them. He always talked from his heart and told a compelling story without ever being at a loss for words.
If you say who’s right, who’s wrong, if you listen to the interview, you don’t know who’s right. Kevin, he believes in what he’s saying and Cody believes what he’s saying.

Dutch Mantell also believed that Owens’ interviews felt like he was in an argument. He was incredible at getting his points across to the audience. Now, the fans were torn between him and Cody Rhodes, as both made coherent and logical points from their points of view.
