Bad Bunny continues to find ways to stay in the headlines after the NFL selected him as the lead performer for the Super Bowl 2025-26 halftime show. The Puerto Rican singer left the internet divided after he refused to stand during “God Bless America.”
Bunny attended the final game between the Toronto Blue Jays and the New York Yankees at Yankee Stadium earlier this week. He blended in with the rest of the crowd by wearing a jacket, shades, and a green cap right behind the batter’s mound.
During the seventh-inning stretch, the loudspeakers played “God Bless America.” The entire stadium stood up except for two individuals.
Footage and photographs recovered by TMZ revealed that Bunny, whose real name is Benito Antonio Martinez Ocasio, and his manager were seen seated while everyone paid respects to the song.

Backlash over Bad Bunny remaining seated during “God Bless America” and clarification
Naturally, Bunny’s action created a lot of ruckus on various social media platforms. This gave right-wing politicians bulletin board material to criticize the Grammy-winning artist.

Tomi Lahren, a conservative commentator and host of Tomi Lahren Is Fearless, posted on X,
Bad Bunny appears to stay seated during ‘God Bless America’ at Yankee Stadium… Yeah, because he has a clear disdain for America. He’s an a-hole.

On Saturday, a popular X account titled ‘Merlins Man’ revealed that he had reached out to Bunny’s manager for a statement.
So, I wanted to add that I asked his manager yo get him up and he said no. Mad at Trump for saying he’s is Latin and not an American. He thinks Trump doesn’t know Puerto Rico is in USA.

What did Donald Trump say about Bad Bunny?
The President of the United States of America weighed in on Goodell and the NFL picking Bunny as the Super Bowl halftime performer at Levi’s Stadium next year. Trump claimed that he had zero clue about the ‘MIA’ singer’s identity.
The NFL just chose the Bad Bunny rabbit or whatever his name is. This guy, who hates ICE, he doesn’t like you; he accuses everything he doesn’t like of racism… I’ve never heard of him. I don’t know who he is.
Trump said on NewsMax’s Greg Kelly Reports
He wasn’t finished. Trump found the idea of a non-American performing at the Super Bowl “ridiculous.”
I don’t know why they’re doing it [the NFL]. It’s crazy. And then they blame it on some promoter they hired to pick up entertainment—I think it’s absolutely ridiculous.
In an interview published in I-D Magazine, Bunny disclosed the reason behind never performing in the US. He feared that ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) would target immigrants during his performances.
People from the U.S. could come here [in Puerto Rico] to see the show. Latinos and Puerto Ricans of the United States could also travel here, or to any part of the world. But there was the issue of—like, [expletive] ICE could be outside.
During a recent appearance on Saturday Night Live, Bunny took a shot at Trump. He expressed gratitude for the opportunity to perform at the Super Bowl. After saying that, he continued his monologue in Spanish, which translates into:
Especially all the Latinos and Latinas across the world, and here, in the United States, all those who have worked to open doors. It’s more than an achievement for myself; it’s an achievement for all of us. It shows our footprint and our contribution to this country that no one will ever be able to take away or erase.
Bunny ended his speech by saying,
If you didn’t understand what I just said, you have four months to learn.
Kendrick Lamar delivered headline after headline during the last Super Bowl. Perhaps, now it’s Bunny’s turn to walk in Lamar’s shoes.
