The Indian men’s badminton team orchestrated a phenomenal 3-2 win over Denmark in the semifinals held at the Impact Arena in Bangkok, Thailand on Friday. India stepped foot into the finals of the Thomas Cup for the first time creating history. It was HS Prannoy who led the team into the semifinals after winning the last match with a tie. 

India is going to face off Indonesia in the summit clash on Sunday, 15th May, which is precisely tomorrow. Despite battling with an ankle injury, Prannoy defeated Ramsus Gemke while continuing his unbeaten run in the Thomas Cup as Prannoy defeated Rasmus Gemke and cleared the way for India to the finale with 13-21, 21-9, 21-12 strikes. 

Despite his injury, he played extraordinarily. Later he quoted, “Mentally, there were a lot of things going on in my head. After the slip, it was hurting more than usual and I was not able to lunge properly and I was thinking what to do“. He further said, “In my mind, it was always coming that I should not give up, just try and see how it goes. Was praying that the pain doesn’t get aggravated and it started to reduce towards the second game and by the third, I was feeling much better.”

India’s way to Thomas Cup Finale – Moments

Prior to this, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty won against Kim Astrup and Mathias Christiansen by 21-18, 21-23, and 22-20. The three victories helped India reach its final stop. In the quarterfinals, the Indian Men’s double pair defeated 5 times champion Malaysia, while Lakshya Sen lost 13-21, 13-21 to Viktor Axelsen of Denmark, as reported on sports.ndtv.com.

While in the second singles Kidambi Srikanth scored 21-18, 12-21, 21-15 against Anders Antonsen. During the third singles, HS Prannoy won against Rasmus Gemke. Finally, in the second doubles, Krishna Prasad Garaga and Vishnuvardhan Goud Panjala lost to the Anders Skaarup Rasmussen and Frederik SoGaard pair 14-21, 13-21.
