PV Sindhu awarded Padma Bhushan
Ace shuttler PV Sindhu has been awarded the Padma Bhusan, India’s third-highest civilian award. The Padma Awards are announced annually on the eve of Republic Day. The Awards are given in three categories, Padma Vibhushan for exceptional and distinguished service, Padma Bhushan for distinguished service of the higher-order and Padma Shri for distinguished service.
Earlier this year, PV Sindhu won her second Olympic medal at the Tokyo Olympics to become the first Indian woman to win two Olympic medals. Sindhu added a bronze medal to her kitty having clinched the silver medal at the 2016 Rio Olympics. The 24-year-old has been the face of Indian badminton off late.

PV Sindhu is delighted to be honoured with the Padma Bhushan award. The ace shuttler feels that such awards only boost athletes and sportspersons’ morale to give their best on the big stage. Sindhu further promised to work hard with the World Series finals and the World Championships coming up.
“It is a proud moment. I am very thankful to the Government of India, all of the ministers and President sir for giving me this award. I am very very happy, these kinds of awards give us a lot of encouragement, support and motivation to do much better in the coming future,” PV Sindhu told ANI after receiving the Padma Bhushan award.
“Definitely I would work hard and give my best. I have some upcoming tournaments, so I hope I do well and give my best in them,” she added.
Sindhu has already been the recipient of Padma Shri in 2015, India’s fourth-highest civilian award and highest sporting honour of India, the Khel Ratna in 2016. Barring the Olympic medals, she is the first woman to emerge victorious at the World Badminton Championships and has won medals at both the 2018 Commonwealth Games and Asian Games.
