The final week of the college football season, which was the rivalry week, was marked by intense emotions and fierce physical brawls across multiple games. This year, the Michigan Wolverines’ victory over the Ohio State Buckeyes was particularly contentious. To celebrate their big win, Michigan players planted a flag at the center of Ohio State’s stadium, which led to a physical fight between players from both teams.
The situation got so out of hand that the police had to step in. The rivalry also reminded fans of a famous moment in 2017 when Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield planted an Oklahoma flag on Ohio State’s field after leading his team to victory.
While the action of both the teams in Week 14 sparked a concerning discussion about sportsmanship and the nature of rivalry in college football, Mayfield mentioned being rather amused by such fierce college football rivalries, reminiscing his own memorable flag-planting moment.
Baker Mayfield was asked about the four flag planting incidents during college rivalry weekend. It was something he did at Ohio State in 2017. “College football is meant to have rivalries. That’s like the Big 12 banning the ‘horns down’ signal. Just let the boys play.” pic.twitter.com/XCLmjvUrDQ

The Big 12 Conference has a strict no-tolerance policy regarding unsportsmanlike conduct. As a result, Michigan and Ohio State were each fined $100,000 for violating the conference’s sportsmanship policy.
Baker Mayfield faces injury scare during Bucs’ win over Panthers
Coming to his NFL regular season game against the Carolina Panthers on Sunday, the Bucs quarterback did not have a smooth outing and even feared he might have sustained a season-ending injury.
In the third quarter of the game, he was stepped on, which made him seriously concerned about the severity of his injury as he admitted being genuinely scared for himself.
Fortunately, his injury was not serious, as he returned to the game but will sit out next week to rest. He will be replaced by Kyle Trask. Despite the Buccaneers securing a victory, Mayfield had a rough performance, throwing two interceptions, getting sacked four times, and fumbling twice.
