Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ journey to the Super Bowl once again came short as Jayden Daniels-led Washington Commanders overpowered them in the Wild-Card round at 23-20 to advance to the divisional round. Yet, the fans didn’t particularly blame quarterback Baker Mayfield as his performance and resilience left a lasting impression on them.
The Bucs entered the game with high hopes, but a late-game fumble by quarterback Mayfield proved to be a turning point. The turnover allowed the Commanders to capitalize on a touchdown pass to Terry McLaurin after the ball was recovered by linebacker Bobby Wagner, resulting in gaining them a 20-17 lead over the Bucs.
Tampa Bay quickly leveled up and tied the score with a 32-yard field goal by Chase McLaughlin, but they couldn’t progress beyond that. In an impressive drive, Commanders kicker Zane Gonzalez sealed the victory with a game-winning 37-yard field goal as the Bucs defense failed to hold up.
I don’t care how this game went… Baker Mayfield is the guy. One of the best quarterbacks in the NFL.

I don’t think there is one better in the NFC. So so unlucky to lose this. pic.twitter.com/hqf7CgZUoy
The quarterback finished the game by completing 21 out of 32 passes for 221 yards and two touchdowns to raise his touchdown count to second-best in the league (41). While it’s true Mayfield’s fumble turned around the game, the Bucs made too many mistakes in the playoffs matchup, especially on the offensive side.
Fan reaction to Baker Mayfield’s performance in the playoff elimination
Following the game, social media was abuzz with support for Mayfield. A Tampa Bay fan went to his social media to express his support for the star quarterback, calling him the “one of the best quarterback in the NFL.” He highlighted the quarterback’s ability to lead the Bucs to the top three in all passing categories throughout the season and except for the fumble, his overall performance was commendable.
His support for Mayfield was echoed by a lot of fans, one of whom wrote, “Good Take,” while many expressed skepticism over the fan’s take of labeling Mayfield arguably the best quarterback in the NFC and wrote, “You have to be joking about the best qb in the NFC.” Here are some of the fan reactions:

Even though things didn’t go as the Bucs wanted, Mayfield broke his personal best touchdown record (28) of last season by posting 41 this season and increased his completion percentage from 64% to 71%.
