Todd Bowles made a major blunder on Monday night. When he saw Mike Evans pick up a bad hamstring injury, he should have understood that it was better to take off Bucs #2 receiver Chris Godwin because there was a below 20% chance of a late turnaround.
Even though the Bucs started with Evans recording his 100th career NFL touchdown, the Ravens took control of the game, with Lamar Jackson completing three touchdowns on either side of the halftime whistler.
While Jackson had a great second and third quarter, Bucs quarterback Baker Mayfield experienced one of the worst of his career. Mayfield threw two picks and almost conceded a couple of turnovers as the Ravens sat at a comfortable 34-10 lead.

Likely a season-ending injury on his left leg ?

Mayfield redeemed himself in the fourth as the Bucs mounted a slight comeback, but they were already without Evans, and then Chris Godwin dragged his left knee through the ground during a tackle from Ravens Roquan Smith with only a minute left to play.
The crowd watched in silence and Bucs’ players were on their knees as the medical team prepared to take Godwin away. Mayfield especially was visually upset because he lost two teammates in the same game.
It could have been avoided if Bowles had decided to give the starters an early break because the game was out of their hands. A garbage time injury hurts the most, and if it’s long-term, then they have a serious issue because of the lack of veteran depth in the receiving core.
Baker Mayfield was distraught by Chris Godwin’s late injury
There was no late comeback, as the game ended with a 41-31 score. The situation inside the Bucs’ locker room was gloomy, and it was reflected in Mayfield’s speech during the post-game press conference.
Reporters asked the 29-year-old, who completed 31 of 45 attempted passes for 370 yards, 3 touchdowns, and 2 interceptions, about his opinion of Godwin’s injury.
"It absolutely sucks…Chris deserves better than that. He's an unbelievable guy, unbelievable teammate."

He also mentioned that some of the backups have to step up because both Evans and Godwin will be out for some time. It means more playtime in the receiving unit for rookie Bucky Irving, who has been their primary punt and kick returner. There are also Sterling Shepard, Trey Palmer, and Jalen McMillan who will see more game time than they have so far.
Before getting injured, Godwin had 7 catches for 65 yards on the night and has also lodged a total of 50 catches for 576 yards and 5 touchdowns this season. The Penn State graduate has a total of 572 catches for 7201 yards and 39 touchdowns since making his debut in 2017.
