The 2021 NFL season is around a month away, yet Brandon Aiyuk is stuck in the same contract situation he was before the offseason. For several months now, there have been speculations and discussions about the star wide receiver’s contract extension however there hasn’t been any progress till now.

With the wide receivers market flourishing this offseason, the expectations of Aiyuk have raised quite high regarding his extension. But the San Francisco 49ers haven’t made any big offers as such, even the one they made was extremely low for Aiyuk and thus, he denied it. Now, there appear to be some new insights on the whole contract situation as NBC Sports’ Matt Maiocco put forward two teams as the potential landing spot for Aiyuk.

In Maiocco’s opinion, trading Aiyuk for a couple of draft picks doesn’t seem right, nor the 49ers are considering it. He believes the Niners will trade away their No. 2 wide receiver if they get a veteran in return to strengthen the offense even more and succeed with the Super Bowl trophy in the coming season.

The Patriots are another logical trade partner for the 49ers. The Patriots could offer former 49ers wide receiver Kendrick Bourne as part of a trade that includes an enticing package of 2025 draft picks.
Matt Maiocco said

If Patriots are the potential team, Kendrick Bourne might be seen sporting red jersey in 2024– making it a win-win situation for both the teams as well as players.

Amari Cooper portrayed the perfect fit for the 49ers in exchange for Brandon Aiyuk

Another player for whom the reigning NFC champion would trade the Second-team All-Pro wideout is Amari Cooper of the Cleveland Browns. Both the receivers have posted similar numbers, making Cooper an ideal pick with his experience added as a bonus for the Niners.

Cooper posted 1,250 yards, five touchdowns, caught 72 passes in 2023 and recorded his seventh 1,000-yard season in his nine-year career. On the other hand, from the Browns’ point of view, they will get a young player with great potential on the roster.

Aiyuk is coming off an impressive NFL season by logging 1,342 yards and seven touchdowns along with 75 passes and secured a place as a second-team All-Pro player. He is seeking a deal close to the highest-paid Justin Jefferson, believing he is just as capable as him, but the 49ers are reluctant to pay him of that numbers which leaves the option to explore trade offers.
