Many believed that Manchester City midfielder Rodri played his last game of the 2024/25 season when he ruptured his ACL against Arsenal in September. The Spaniard, who beat Real Madrid star Vinicius Jr. to the Ballon d’Or last month, has announced that he could return to action sooner than expected.

Rodri turned up to the Ballon d’Or ceremony in crutches, where he was crowned the best player in the world. His absence has resulted in Manchester City sitting five points off Liverpool in the top spot. The club has lost its last four games in all competitions.

Rodri names ‘most difficult thing’ he did as the reason for Ballon d’Or triumph

Rodri winning the Ballon d’Or over Vinicius Jr. evoked wild reactions on social media. From Real Madrid boycotting the award ceremony to several players openly ‘rejecting’ the result, Rodri‘s win marked a seminal moment in the history of the award.

After more than two weeks since his triumph, Rodri has opened up about the same. He opined that he clinched the award thanks to his consistency.

I won Ballon d’Or because of consistency, the most difficult thing in football. I was the most consistent player in the season.

Rodri stated

Following Rodri’s Ballon d’Or win, Vinicius has stated that he’ll ‘do it 10x if needed‘ to win the award. The Brazilian recently scored a hat-trick against La Liga side Osasuna.
