In Short
  • Barack Obama attended the 2026 All-Star Game and interacted with Reggie Miller, referencing his favorite basketball memories.
  • Obama announced plans for a full-size basketball court at the upcoming Barack Obama Presidential Center in Chicago.
  • During the All-Star Game, Obama showcased his basketball skills by grabbing a loose ball courtside, impressing commentators.

Among all those who have been in the Oval Office, former President Barack Obama has always tried to do his best when it comes to supporting the NBA.

His love for basketball has seen the 64-year-old play hoops at the White House, and wherever else he can get his hands on a ball. Obama also famously invited many NBA stars to play with him while he was in office.

In 2024, he labeled himself as the official ‘Hooper in Chief,’ as he famously said while sending off the likes of LeBron James, Stephen Curry, and the rest of the USA Basketball team to the Paris Olympics.

This year, Obama is working on expanding his connection with fans of the sport, and along with his wife, Michelle Obama, traveled to Los Angeles to arrive at Intuit Dome to watch the 2026 All-Star game.

When Reggie Miller caught up with the former President, he asked him about his favorite basketball memories from the 1990s, when Barack Obama started his budding political career.

I always enjoyed watching us beat Indiana.

Barack Obama replied

As soon as the father of two said this, the Hall of Famer sunk in his knees. That was because he understood that Obama was referring to the time when Michael Jordan stopped Reggie Miller’s Indiana Pacers on his way to winning championships.

That was because before becoming the 44th President of the United States, Barack Obama was a Senator from the state of Illinois, and spent his time watching the Chicago Bulls, the Chicago Bears, and the Chicago White Sox.

Barack Obama to build full-size court at Presidential Center

This year, one of the things Barack Obama will be known for is when the Barack Obama Presidential Center opens to the public. Situated on the South Side of Chicago, it is being built to commemorate his term as the first African-American President.

It’s going to have a museum. It will have art, a recording studio, and a public library. Michelle’s garden will be duplicated there. But one thing it will have, yes, is a full court basketball court. We intend to have all kinds of activities.

Barack Obama said

This was the Hawaii-born former politician’s response when Reggie Miller asked him if the Presidential Center would feature an NBA-sized, full-length basketball court.

Miller even mentioned that he would be going to Chicago in June when the Center opens, and will play a game of horse with the former President. No date has been announced yet, but there is a chance that this said game involving Barack Obama, Miller, and some basketball greats would likely happen after the NBA Finals end.

Barack Obama gets into the act at All-Star game

Trolling Reggie Miller and then talking about the full-length basketball court at his upcoming Presidential Center were not the only things Barack Obama did at the 2026 All-Star game.

When the festivities kicked off with the Team World taking on the USA Stars, there was a sequence when the latter were trying to create a scoring opportunity.

After dribbling inside, Tyrese Maxey tried to send the ball out to Devin Booker on the wing. However, Nikola Jokic got his hand on the ball. As both he and Booker tried to gather it, Barack Obama grabbed it with both his hands.

The ball was headed in Michelle Obama’s direction, and her husband essentially stopped it before it got to her. Reggie Miller, on a broadcast with NBC, remarked how Obama timed his hands perfectly to gather the ball. It was a mark of how basketball comes naturally to the former Most Powerful Man in the World.
