Barbora Krejcikova’s Wimbledon title defense ended in heartbreak as she left Court One in tears. Struggling with visible pain and fitness issues, she couldn’t hold off Emma Navarro, who seized the moment to score a major upset. With five of the top six seeds already out, Krejcikova became the latest to fall in a turbulent women’s draw.
Krejcikova, the 2024 champion, had been battling injuries all year. She arrived at Wimbledon with just six matches played in 2025. After returning in May from a long-term back injury, she exited early at the French Open and withdrew from Eastbourne with a thigh issue. Despite her physical setbacks, she described playing on Centre Court in the first round as a special experience.

The tournament began promisingly for the Czech star. She came from behind to beat Alexandra Eala in the first round and edged out Caroline Dolehide in three sets in the second. Against Navarro, she made a strong start, winning the first set with ease. But in the second set, her game faltered, and Navarro quickly capitalized to level the match.
In the deciding set, Krejcikova took a long break to regroup. However, she missed multiple break chances and then dropped serve. After another error, she showed signs of distress, leaning on her racquet with a pained expression.
Though she briefly broke back, Navarro responded immediately. Krejcikova called for a medical timeout, during which her blood pressure was checked. Clearly in discomfort, she couldn’t recover, and Navarro closed out the win as Krejcikova fought to contain her emotions.

Mirra Andreeva and Emma Navarro, two of the remaining top 10 seeds, are set to face off in the Wimbledon Round of 16. Despite a rain-affected schedule on Saturday, Andreeva stayed focused under the No. 1 Court roof and delivered a dominant performance. She beat American Hailey Baptiste 6-1, 6-3, moving into the second week of a Grand Slam for the sixth time in only ten main-draw appearances.

Later in the day, No. 10 seed Emma Navarro also advanced from the same court. She bounced back after losing the first set to defending champion Barbora Krejcikova. Navarro turned the match around, winning 2-6, 6-3, 6-4 to book her spot in the fourth round.
Andreeva, seeded No. 7, is now the highest-ranked player remaining in the bottom half of the women’s draw. With early exits from Coco Gauff and Jessica Pegula, the path has opened slightly. Andreeva hasn’t dropped a set yet and played a clean match against World No. 55 Baptiste, who had only just claimed her first Wimbledon win this year.
Andreeva broke Baptiste’s serve five times in a match that lasted just 78 minutes. She also struck 28 winners during the victory. After the match, she credited her coach, Conchita Martinez, for the effective game plan. With strong results at the Australian Open and Roland Garros, Andreeva is the youngest player since 2006 to reach at least the fourth round in all three of the season’s first Grand Slams.
Emma Navarro set to play Mirra Andreeva in the Wimbledon Round of 16
Defending champion Barbora Krejcikova and Emma Navarro met for the first time in their careers at Wimbledon. Krejcikova, the defending champion, came into the match with limited court time in 2025 due to a persistent back injury. In contrast, Navarro is known as one of the tour’s fittest and most consistent players.
Krejcikova had battled through two tough three-set matches earlier in the tournament, against Alexandra Eala and Caroline Dolehide. However, she couldn’t repeat that effort against Navarro. The American advanced to the Wimbledon Round of 16 for the second straight year.
In the final set, with Navarro leading 3-2, Krejcikova took a medical timeout to check her blood pressure. She managed to break back right after the pause. Still, Navarro held strong and won the next two games to close out the match.
This upcoming Round of 16 clash will be a rematch of their 2023 Cincinnati meeting. Andreeva won that match decisively, beating Navarro 6-2, 6-2.
